Meet The Author: Bridget Van der Eyk

A bit about Bridget Van der Eyk…

Bridget Van der Eyk is an up-and-coming contemporary romance author – 10 Dates is her debut novel.

She lives in country NSW, Australia on a 5-acre property with her husband (Josh), 2 children (Zoe and Max), and 2 dogs (Kevin and Stella).

By day she works as a high school Science and Agriculture teacher, and by night she is writing her next romance novel.

Her hobbies include watching Korean zombie shows on Netflix, baking the best chocolate cakes you’ve ever tasted, and auditioning for every Australian game show she can!

Q – What inspired you to become a writer?

A – No one person inspired me to start writing, I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember! My husband, however, has always been my number one fan and he really encouraged me to publish my debut “10 Dates” and supported me through the entire journey.

Q -Who are your biggest literary influences?

A – I love that there are so many strong female voices in contemporary romance now that have inspired and influenced my own writing, such as Ali Hazelwood, Tessa Bailey, and Emily Henry.

Q – How do you handle negative reviews or criticism of your work?

A – I remind myself that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and my writing and stories won’t be for everyone. Someone’s 1 star review is another’s 5 star.

Q – What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

A – Take the leap and publish your work! Writing is such a vulnerable process and publishing independently is such a massive endeavour, but there is nothing more rewarding than holding that first paperback copy of a story that you created!

Q – What do you hope readers take away from your writing?

A – Entertainment! I write stories that have characters that are real, flawed, and entertaining. If you’re a Gossip Girl fan, “10 Dates” is definitely for you!
